5.5

Made 5.5 miles on the Capital Crescent Trail last night. 57 minutes to accomplish it too. That is the furthest I have run to date. I went from mile 4 to 7 w/out stopping and then turned around and ran from 7 to 4.5. There were a lot of people on the trail at first and then it seemed like it was just me as it got darker. Next time I need to go a lot earlier so it doesn't get so dark out. The deer by mile 7 was not expected at all either.

mall

Attempted to go running on the National Mall on Sun afternoon around 4pm. Bad idea. It was way too hot and I couldnt focus. I ended up doing more of a run/walk. Pretty disappointing considering I was going to attempt to do 5 miles. I wont be running on the mall anytime soon, unless it is really early in the day or later in the evening. There were so many cool things to look at it, and I had no motivation to do so!

Trail

Went today on the Capital Crescent Trail. It is a trail that goes from Silver Spring, MD to Georgetown in DC. It is 11 miles of a trail that makes me forget I am anywhere near a city. I live a mile away from where mile 4.5 is and so I started there today and went to mile 6 and then turned around to go back. It was nice to run with a lot of other people for once. I think my grand total of running today had to be at least 4.5 miles, but I am not so sure b/c the watch said 4.964 miles, but I dont think it is exactly right anymore. Either way it was far for me. I just have to work up to be able to run all the way to Georgetown.

going faster

I ran the same route today that I usually go on Mass. Ave. This time I got there a lot faster than usual which is good, but I didn't keep it up after the first 15 mins. I need to keep better track of what I am eating the night before I go running b/c the pizza from last night didn't help much I think. I am getting more tired during the day when I go running in the mornings too so I am going to have to see what I can do to help that out.

Sam gave me a lot of support and advice yesterday about the race. I ordered the socks that he recommended b/c I am trying to ensure my feet don't get any injuries along the way. He is running a marathon in Erie on 9/20th. Running in Erie seems to be easier b/c it is so incredibly flat and theres the beach to look at as well. I am looking forward to doing that when I go home for Labor Day wknd.

I also ordered some running shorts with plenty of pockets to put things in. I don't know how cool these are going to look, but hopefully they will be helpful for the day of the race.

Official training starts on 9/15th. 15 weeks and 3 days until the race.

Another one

Had another wedding this past wknd, this time for Mike's high school friends in Ohio. I had big goals to go running on Fri and Sun, but didnt do so well. I dont know what made Friday so rough. Maybe the heat, maybe that it was at 1030 am as opposed to my typical 630am or maybe it was that I didnt know the area well enough to know where I was going, not enough sleep? Either way Friday was more of a run/walk and then my Sunday run never happened. Looking forward to Tuesday!

labs

My doctor just called to give me my lab results from my appt on 7/30. She said everything looked "completely normal" and that my A1C is 6.0%. A big improvement from 6.7% in February. I am pretty excited and it is always nice for a diabetic to be called normal.

4 miles

Mike and I went running on Sat in Philly before Pat's wedding. I didnt know how I would do running with him a longer distance b/c I am usually alone and do my own thing. We tried to make it so I walk less than 2 miles. It went better than I thought and when we were done at 3.5 miles, we decided to keep going to reach 4. I am pretty excited with hitting a new mile marker. 4 is good for this week. Plus I feel good so far and had fun doing it. We ran a 10:45 mile which helps me try to figure out what type of pace I am at.

These are a few pics from Pat's wedding and Mike and I in front of the Rocky statue which is fitting, ha. It was great to run that morning and then feel free to eat and drink as I pleased too.

Today I tried to run on some hills to make things a little different. I went on the same hill 2 times b/c it was hard and the second time was better than the first which is good.

I have signed up for the race. We are going to fly out to Vegas on Fri Dec 5th and fly back to DC on Tues Dec 9th. Mike and I will stay in the Luxor hotel which is pretty close to where the start and finish of the race is at the Mandalay Bay.

I am beyond excited. I have never done anything like this before. The pictures are of the Luxor and the Cirque De Soleil Show "Ka" that I really want to go see again. This is the show we tried to see the last time we were in Vegas a year ago, but the power went out at the MGM Grand and the show was cancelled about 20 mins into it. I cannot wait for all these events to take place.
